NATURE AND SCOPE

The position reports to the Cheese Supervisor.  No employees report to the position.  This position works closely with the Mixer Operator.  The Cheese P2 Operator must be able to understand the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), follow safe handling of hazardous chemicals, and keep accurate record-keeping as required.

 

Pay Rate: $27.35

 

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • 30%     Monitor and control slurry consistency and ingredient usage.
  • 20%     Perform start up and shut down of P2 slurry system, including cut in and cut out.
  • 20%     Maintain sanitary condition of the area including performing CIP of P2 system.
  • 10%     Perform changeovers correctly.
  • 10%     Communicate effectively with other operators and department management.
  • 10%     Perform all duties in a safe manner while observing all SOP and GMP guidelines.

 

GENERAL OUTLINE OF DUTIES (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following outline of duties satisfactorily. This is only a sampling of responsibility as other duties will be assigned.)

 

  • Prepare start up and shut down process
  • Perform cut in and cut out testing for state and document on graph chart
  • Monitor seals for leaks
  • Perform can checks and calibrate ingredient application system daily
  • Verify divert valve is functioning correctly
  • Refer to make plan to determine amount of powder, whey cream, water and gluconic acid required
  • Adjust set points according to plan
  • Direct system based on pounds per hour, set flow rate and monitor flow meters
  • Monitor pump speeds, flow rates, pressure and temperature throughout process
  • Take samples and test for pH and total solids in DMC lab
  • Maintain correct level in Dry Mixer Hold Tank
  • Check magnets before start up and at the end of each day
  • Communicate with the Cheese Foreperson and follow the Shutdown Calculation Sheet to perform change-overs
  • Operate overhead hoist to remove strainers
  • Perform CIP processes, making necessary manual connections
  • Spray out strainers every 4 hours
  • Update Master Sanitation Schedule
  • Follow required Lockout / Tagout procedures
  • Any additional duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years old.
  • Must be able to work Sunday - Saturday, off-shifts, weekends, holidays, and required overtime to support a 24 hour/7 day operation.
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 8.5 hours.

 

General Experience/Educational Background

Minimum

  • Able to read, write and perform intermediate mathematical calculations
  • Demonstrated ability to complete work assignments with high degree of accuracy

Preferred

  • Familiarity with SAP or other manufacturing software system working with touch screens.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in a dairy/food manufacturing environment.

 

Language and Technical Skills

  • Good communication skills
  • Must be able to maintain accurate records
  • Familiar with Excel spreadsheets

 

Reasoning Ability

  • Good time management skills
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision
  • Able to interpret data and make necessary decisions

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • This position will be exposed inside ambient temperatures and may include  a wet / slippery environment with loud noise in varying degrees of temperature
  • Specific vision may be required for this position, including close vision, distance vision, color and depth perception, and the ability to read computer screens for extended time periods
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds
