We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Utility Mechanic at our Tracy, CA production facility.

 

Position Summary:

The Utilities Mechanic is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all utility equipment, performs and documents all tests, maintains logs and understands/adheres to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's). The position is responsible for all plant utilities including, but not limited to, refrigeration, boilers, air compressors, HVAC, water systems, chemical treatment systems, plumbing, electrical, and wastewater support. The Utilities Mechanic will often work independently and must exercise considerable judgment and problem-solving skills to ensure safe and efficient operation of equipment.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshooting and repair of mechanical equipment including pumps, gear reducers, seals, bearings, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, blowers, boilers, cooling towers, condensers, Nh3 systems, compressed air system, waste-water ponds, HVAC systems.
  • Troubleshooting and repair of electrical equipment including motors, electrical distribution center, motor control centers, variable speed drives, transformers, and all electrical controls.
  • Analyze and solve electro/mechanical problems of processing, packaging, and auxiliary equipment, and to assist manufacturing personnel on process related problems.
  • Maintains operation of all ammonia refrigeration equipment.
  • Ensure maintenance of boilers and associated equipment including all testing and adjustments based on test results.
  • Perform tests on all water systems as required and accurately document all necessary information and adjust chemicals as necessary based on test results
  • Ensure proper operation of all condensate return systems.
  • Confirm contents, log and monitor receipt of bulk chemicals.
  • Complete preventative maintenance work orders as assigned.
  • Comply with Good Manufacturing Practices at all times, including good housekeeping in the power areas.
  • Must be willing to work overtime, off-shift, weekends, holidays.
  • Perform any other function that may be required or assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School degree or general education degree (GED).
  • 2 + years of industrial refrigeration experience, preferably Nh3 in food industry
  • Working knowledge of A/B PLC’s
  • Outside hires will be required to take a mechanical aptitude tests (score of 70% or greater is recommended)
  • Must have RETA certifications (CARO or CIRO) based on RETA’s Industrial Refrigeration I, II, and IV as well as two basic electricity courses.
  • Successfully complete the 10, In-house refrigeration certification courses within 6 months
  • Understand CBN (Compelling Business Need) for Plant
  • Must be able to perform basic mathematical functions.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend procedures and manuals.
  • Must be able to communicate well between production department, other maintenance technicians and department management.
  • Ability to problem-solve and trouble shoot equipment.
  • Must be willing to support a 24/7 operation by being available to work weekends and holidays.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical certification or degree preferred.
  • Understanding of the dairy manufacturing process a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Excellent troubleshooting experience including electrical, mechanical, pneumatics & PLC’s.
  • Good organizational, cross-functional and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to effectively lead teams both directly and indirectly to accomplish business objectives.
  • Must role model professional leadership characteristics.
  • Good math and analytical skills.
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Office, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Must speak, read and write in English.
  • Must be able to read and follow blueprints, drawings and schematics.
