POSITION PURPOSE

 

This position performs a variety of duties. The General Laborer will inspect cheese quality, inspect packaging, package the cheese, ensure packaging quality, and perform sanitation of work area and equipment.

 

 

All other duties as assigned.

The position reports to the Packaging Supervisor. No employees report to the position.

 

The General Labor employee is responsible for the safe operation of the associated equipment and/or processes, the quality of incoming raw materials, the quality of the outgoing products in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safe work practices.  This position is also responsible for maintaining 5S standards, and participating in and implementing continuous improvement. 

 

The General Laborer must be able to communicate effectively in relaying information to team members, team leads, supervisors, and managers as applicable.

 

The General Laborer must be able to lift moderate weights repeatedly throughout the shift.  The position holder is also required to stand/walk throughout the shift and must have the ability to work in hot, humid, and cold areas. The General Laborer must be able to work overtime and holidays when required. The operator must be able to read/write and perform basic arithmetic in order to understand the S.O.P.’s, Good Manufacturing Practices, and safe work practices.

 

The General Labor employee must be able to understand the requirements of the position and successfully demonstrate proficiency in the job specific PSOP job certification.

 

This position is responsible and accountable to ensure product meets food safety, regulatory, and quality requirements by following the Food Safety Plan, Quality Plan, and company policies.

 

This position requires the incumbent to work on site at the facility to be able to perform the associated job responsibilities.

 

This position is an overnight position, working 12 hour shifts 5:00 pm - 5:30 am. 

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

1.

Package the cheese into the tote and seal the bags.

2.

Maintain stock of boxes on the packaging line and inspect packaging materials for defects and report issues to the team lead, supervisors, or manager as applicable.

Inspect final cheese product for product quality and report issues to team lead, supervisor, or manager as applicable.

Follow all applicable safety rules and regulations.

5.

Properly clean and sanitize all equipment following good manufacturing practices as required by company procedures, maintain housekeeping in area and maintain 5S standards.

6.

Document all lot numbers and pallet numbers of bag, box, liners, and stretch wrap used on the tracking logs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

Knowledge and Skills

A minimum of 18 years old; ability to speak, read and write the English language; ability to evaluate and identify mechanical conditions and make adjustments or corrective action as necessary; ability to access elevated work areas such as climbing ladders/stairs; basic math skills to be able to perform mathematical functions; ability to understand and apply standard operating procedures; ability to wear required personal protective equipment and comply with all applicable safety practices; ability to maintain a clean work area according to good manufacturing processes; and have good communication skills to communicate with co-workers and oncoming/outgoing shifts.

 

Must be willing to work in a manufacturing environment that operates 24/7/365, this includes nights, weekends, and holidays. 

 

Education and Experience

Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • This position will be exposed to working in a wet/slippery environment with loud noise in varying degrees of temperature
  • Specific vision may be required for this position, including close vision, distance vision, color and depth perception, and the ability to read computer screens for extended time periods
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 38 pounds
  • Frequent walking and standing
  • Climb up and down stairs/ladders, bending and reaching required
